Play Board Games

When it comes to spending a challenging, fun and entertaining few hours, there is very little that can beat board games without actually leaving the comfort of your own home.

To be able to sit down with your friends and family and play board games is both socially fun and is often educational too.

The range and variety of board games available now is staggering. Gone are the days when you were restricted to just Monopoly, Cluedo, Trivial Pursuit or Scrabble (all great games of course). Today there is enormous choice and I will briefly give you a few great starters just to get you going.

In fact here are my top 5:

Settlers of Catan - Number of Players 3 to 4. Probably the game that heralded a new era of board games and now a modern day classic. Fairly simple to play, players build road, towns and cities on a hexagonal tiles and compete for the best development, longest road.

Ticket to Ride - Number of Players 2 to 6. Easy to play railway building games but with lots of strategies. Connect cities across the USA for high scoring routes. Colourful board and great little trains.

Ingenious - Number of Players 2 to 4. Very abstract game but you will play this one time and time again. Players place tiles to create lines of hexagonal colours. Takes only 30 minutes to play and everyone I've shown this game to has enjoyed it.

Carcassonne - Number of Players 2 to 5. Very popular and easy to play tile laying game. Players create farms, castles and roads and get their pieces to occupy them. Plays just as well with 2 as with 5. Loads of expansions are also available.

Puerto Rico - Number of Players 3 to 5. Probably the toughest to learn out of these 5 but well worth the effort. The players are plantation growing up to five different types of crops: Corn, Indigo, Coffee, Sugar and Tobacco. They must try to run their business more efficiently than their close competitors; growing crops, storing them efficiently and, at the right time, ship their goods back to Europe for maximum benefit.
These are just a very small example of the great games that are out there just waiting for you to try and enjoy.

So play board games everyone. It may just bring back the art of conversation and a few evenings in with your family.

Board Games That Use Money

Fake money is often a staple of some of the most popular board games. One of the measure of success in today's society is how much money a person earns and accumulates throughout their life and today's board games naturally reflect that ideology. Play money often helps players to accomplish their goals in the game they are playing, but sometimes, however, it simply helps them farther along the path to winning. Whatever the case is for the particular game, though, the money is often an important part of the game itself.

Monopoly is one game where the money is vitally important to the game running well. Each player starts with a certain, small amount of money. As they make their way around the board, they must then use that money to purchase properties to develop as well as paying bills and taxes. Every time that the player makes one lap around the board, they are given an additional $200 for their "payday," but this money can quickly begin to dwindle. The balance comes in trying to always have enough money on hand to pay Rent on the other player's properties, pay any bills or taxes which may arise, and having enough to develop one's own properties so that the Rent on these properties will rise for the other players who land on them.

Players slowly begin to accumulate wealth during the game while other players begin to lose more and more money. Indeed, as property values rise in the game, players will begin to owe the other players more and more money and some players will eventually have to declare bankruptcy. The winner of the game is the last player left standing with money, the one who eventually has a monopoly over the entire game board.

The Game of Life is another one that features money, although it's often simply more about the accumulation of money. The finances in this game don't work as a bartering tool and one usually doesn't need to worry about running out. In The Game of Life, players work their way around the board, accumulating money. Some spaces will force a player to pay money back into the bank, such as when they need to buy a home or pay tuition for their children. However, the salaries in this game are normally much larger than any of the expenses that need to be paid and certain spots in the game will grant a player "Life Tiles" which can be counted up at the end of the game. These Life Tiles mark certain "accomplishments" in the life of the player and usually have large payouts. The winner of The Game of Life is the one who accumulates the most money throughout the game, making building wealth into the main goal.

Other games with money can help players learn more about finances in general. Pay Day, on which the board is a calendar month, will help teach players about budgeting money as well as making smart investments. The game play is denoted by however many "months" the players want to play for, and while the winner of this game is the one who has the largest sum of money at the end, the game is not as simple as only saving all the money that one earns. Players will need to balance their budget will in order to do well with this game, which is just another prime example of games which use the influence of money.

Mahjong Rules

Mahjong is a traditional Chinese game. There are various versions of mahjong today: the Chinese, the Japanese and the American with different rules. Mahjong involves skill, intelligence, estimation as well as luck. Mahjong, which literally means "the game of a hundred intelligences" in Chinese, has been traditionally used as a gambling game. Ma Chiao, Mo Tsiah, Ma Cheuk, Ma Jong, Ma Chiang, Ma Chong, Man Chu, Mah Diao, Pung Chow, Mah Chong, Ching Chong, Mah Cheuk, Ma Chiang, Kong Chow, Mah Deuck, Lung Chan, Mah Lowe, Pe Ling, Baak Ling are other names for Mahjong.

There are many kinds of Mahjong games ranging from the very easy to the most complicated. Each of these games has a set of predetermined rules. The rules establish procedures for determining the seating, building the wall, playing the game, winning the game, rounds, penalties, scoring, ways of going out, draws and abortive draws.

Mahjong is generally played by four people though it can also have 2, 3 or 5 players. A full game has 16 hands of play in four rounds named after the four directions- east, south, west and north in that order. Each player has a particular direction or wind, starting with East for the first player. Generally, the first player is selected by throwing the dice. The player with the highest score gets to be the first player.

The next step is to build the wall i.e. to arrange the tiles in a stack. The tiles are mixed well and arranged in 18 stacks (two tiles one on top of the other) in a horizontal row in front of each player in the form of a square. The stack is then broken and the tiles distributed among the players according to a particular format so that each player has 13 tiles each. The rest of the tiles are known as the wall and are kept in the middle.

Each player begins to discard the tiles and drawing from the wall. The objective is to get 4 sets and a pair. A set of tiles may be a sequence of three consecutive same suit tiles (CHOW) or three identical tiles (PUNG) or a set of 4 of a kind (KONG). The game ends when one player has finished accumulating the 4 sets and a pair. The game is said to be a "draw" if none of the players manages to win by the time the wall is exhausted. There are many variations in scoring in mahjong. It involves determining the points; multiplication of the points according to applicable doubles; and determining the payment. There are also penalties for breaking certain rules. The points defer based on the sets: sequences, melded triplets, concealed triplets, melded fours and concealed fours.

New international rules have been formulated for mahjong for international championships and tournaments like the World Championship by the China State Sports Commission in 1998. This has uplifted mahjong from the statues of a gambling game and made it an international sport. These rules were first used in 2002 in the first World Championship. The new rulebook contains 80 combinations of patterns and scoring elements based on traditional as well as modern variants of the game.

Asian Gambling Basics

Gambling became popular in China in the last phase of the imperial dynasty i.e. from 1644 to 1912. Canton, Macao, Shanghai and Hong Kong became the famous for their liquor and gambling. These areas inhabited foreigners, usually Americans, who were known to be rough. Moreover, majority of these inhabitants were males. Chinese natives indulged in gambling along with the foreigners.

Famous gambling games in China include Mah Jongg and Pai Gow.
Pia Gow consists of a bank having one woodpile. The banking duties are entrusted to one of the players. Other players are given four tiles of the woodpile, which they have to group in pairs of two such that the player's pair should have a greater value than the bank. If the player succeeds then he wins the bet. A lot of money can exchange hands over this game.

Mah Jongg, meaning 'sparrow' is an ancient game which was developed primarily for the rich class of China. The game is said to have been invented by a fisherman to prevent sea sickness. It is said that the fisherman invented this game to distract the other fishermen from the surroundings, so that they do not feel sea sick in the middle of the sea. Later, a Chinese general heard of the game and engaged his soldiers in it at night to prevent them from falling asleep. The game underwent a lot of variations and every region called it with a different name. Finally, the game was standardized in early 1990s. the game consists of 136 to 144 tiles depending on the whether the players choose to play with flowers or seasons. The play resembles rummy except for the fact that the game is played with tiles. The game also uses a pair of dice and chips to keep the score. It requires four players, the aim of each being to obtain a set of tiles. The set types that are permitted are "kong", "pung" and "chow". A complete hand contains four sets and a pair of similar tiles. The fist one to have this combination of fourteen tiles wins.

Another game is Sci Bo, meaning 'two dice'. This game is a betting game with players betting on the total of their dice. It is played with three dice. The bets include small bets that is the total may fall; between the range of four to ten, or big bets i.e. the total may fall between eleven to seventeen. The players shake the dice in a cup and keep the cup upside down with the dice hidden in the cup. Wagers are then made on the outcome. The player guessing the total can earn hugs sums. It is rumored that skilful players can predict the total by hearing the clanking of dice in the cup. In casinos the entire game is mechanized. Bets are placed on the number marked on the table. The dice are then shaken using a vibrating platform. The results are displayed on a screen. Other famous gambling games include Keno and Pachinko.

Despite the popularity of these gambling games, not all Chinese states are ready to legalize it. While Macao has legalized gambling, Shanghai carries it on illegally. In Hong Kong, only horse raising is legalized and The Hong Kong Jockey Club earns huge revenue.

If you are hoping to start on some do-it-yourself projects with your floors at home, then check out some simple and useful tips to remember for successful floor tile laying.

Have a good game plan. As in any military battle, or even in sports event, a game plan is essential in the prevention of failure. Prepare all needed materials and tools. When you have decided on the cost and style of tile you want to lay on your floors, be sure you have enough tiles on hand. If one or more pieces break, it can save you a trip to the hardware store if you bought several extra tiles beforehand. Also, check on the prices of affordable but good quality floor tile adhesives and grout. Be sure you have a good estimate of how much you need. If you want to save on the cost of buying tools, ask around your neighborhood if they have any that you can borrow.

Work efficiently and carefully. Follow the instructions on packages of grout and adhesives before applying them. Be sure you have hand cleaners around in case you get the mess on your hands. Also, keep in mind your work schedule and your deadline. Note that tile adhesive needs to be dried before grouting can be done. Also, the newly tiled floor should be left to dry for a couple of days before returning any furniture.

Facebook Game - Mahjong Dimension Review

Mahjong Dimension is a game that is developed by two companies, which are Mob Science and Arkadium. Little have I heard about this company, but that never stops us from reviewing their game.

Gameplay
Mahjong Dimension is a game that is... well, Mahjong, with a bit of a twist of 3D. If you consider normal Mahjong as hard, try playing this one.

In the game, players will be given a set of mahjong tiles which is now stack up in 3D format (Somehow the mahjong tiles looks more like dice to me). Players can rotate either to the left or to the right to check out the tiles and to find the best way to solve it. Gameplay is simple, just try and match a set of mahjong tiles with the same symbol and it will open up the rest of the mahjong pieces for you.

Do bear in mind that players only have 1 minute to score as much as possible in this game. Completing a set of mahjong does not reset the timer nor does it provide any additional time into it. The timer will still proceed to countdown no matter what the player do.

Once the clock strikes 0, players score will be uploaded and players can then compare their score with their friends.

Mahjong Dimension is a quick game and depending on players, if you like Mahjong then you will like this game for sure.

Graphic
Very nice 3D Mahjong and the rotation from left to right are very smooth. Other than that, there is nothing much to add for the graphic department.

Sound
The music tries to sound like it is Oriental, but I think the developers can put some extra work in it. However, the music does suit the mood of the gameplay as this game only runs for 1 minute.

Conclusion
Mahjong Dimension is a very fast game. Is it addictive? Well that is really up to individual. I for one did not really get too addicted to it.

I personally rate this 2.5 out of 5 rating.

Play Scrabble Online For Free!

Play Free Scrabble Online Today

One of the World's most beloved games is available now online and you can play for Free! Not only that, you can win some money. Continue reading this article, and I will give you some history on the game of Scrabble, as well as some great information on the natural progression of this game to the internet. Grab a cup of coffee and let me tell you a little about this game...

The History of Scrabble

The game of Scrabble is for word lovers. Points are scored by making words from individual letter tiles. Words can be formed up, down and across on a grid-like game board. The origins of the game go clear back to 1938 when a similar game called Lexiko was invented. In 1948, the manufacturing rights were purchased by James Brunot. He revamped the rules and changed the name to "Scrabble." The game got its big break in 1952 when the president of Macy's, Jack Strauss discovered the game. He decided that everyone should have the game and began to sell such large quantities that Brunot could no longer keep up with the orders. The rights of the game were then sold to Selchow & Righter. The game has changed hands several times but the concept is still the same. Scrabble even became a TV game show in 1984.

Scrabble Board Game Set Up

The game board is made up of a 15-by-15 grid of cells or squares. Each one will accommodate a single letter tile. There are 98 letter tiles ranging in value from 1 to 10 points. Common letters are worth fewer points, whereas harder letters to use such as Z or Q are worth the highest points. There are also 2 blank tiles that can be used to substitute any letter, but they are worth 0 points. Some of the squares on the board are colored differently. The tile that lands on these special cells can cause the points of that word to be doubled or even tripled.

To decide who will get to go first, each player must draw a letter tile. The letter closest to the beginning of the alphabet will go first. Each player then draws seven tiles. During each turn, a player can decide to both pass and forfeit the turn, exchange one or more tiles for an equal number from the leftovers in the bag, or form a word on the board and scoring the accumulative points. The first player starts in the center of the board and words are formed from there. After playing a word, the player draws more letter tiles from the bag to once again have seven tiles on his rack. According to the rules, the game is over when either someone plays all seven of his tiles and there are no more left in the bag, or when six successive scoreless turns have occurred and the score is not zero-zero. The scores are then tallied, but each player must subtract any points remaining on his rack.

Scrabble Goes Online

A fairly recent phenomenon has been born - Free Online Scrabble. A number of sites offer the possibility to play Scrabble online against other users. Many websites have the game available to play free. Some companies have had to change the name slightly to avoid lawsuit from Hasbro and Mattel, the current makers of the game. However, regardless of the controversy, online Scrabble has taken off exponentially. Mattel has its own version of free online Scrabble, as well as The International Scrabble Club, http://www.pogo.com, and hundreds of others. By simply googling Free Online Scrabble, one can bring up over a half a million hits. However, you decide to play, whether it is the old-fashioned way or using the latest of modern technology, you are sure to learn something when playing this game.

Summary

Scrabble has a very interesting history and now people are playing free scrabble online as well...

Mahjong Game Jewelry

Mahjong is an ancient Chinese game with tiles, which have characters or pictures on them. Many people love the tiles because of the exotic designs on them. You can find and purchase these games with missing pieces for little or no money. Who wants a game with missing pieces? Then you take the tiles and turn them into jewelry. You can charge from $10 to $30 for your pieces of jewelry, depending on what kind you are selling.

It is amazing to see the huge variety of beautiful designs on Mahjong tiles. Finding old used games can be the best way to collect the pieces to make your jewelry out of. Look for pieces in thrift stores, estate, garage, and yard sales. If you can acquire your pieces this way you will be able to make a profit by selling your jewelry made with them.

Since these tiles are small in size, they are a good size to use for the purpose of making jewelry. There is such a wide variety of items that you can make with them, from small pendants and key fobs to large bulky bracelets and necklaces.

You can sell your jewelry in many different ways. If you choose to start slowly with your business, start by making your jewelry available to friends, co-workers, students, and family. You can also offer your jewelry in small local boutiques; try to sell your pieces to the owners. If the owners are not interested in buying your jewelry, they may still offer to sell your jewelry for you. Make sure that you mount your pieces of jewelry on cards or package them in a way that you are able to put your name on them. This will help customers to get to know and recognize your products.

Another way to sell your jewelry is by selling from your own web site. This might involve a little more initial investment, but it is well worth it because you will be able to sell to a huge marketplace, worldwide. Just make sure that you are able to have a large amount of jewelry made to fill orders. You will also want to make sure that your Web Store has an easy to recognize and remember name, it is easy for your customers to find and use, and include as much information and clear sharp pictures of what you are selling. With this type of business, it is also important that you fill your orders quickly and ship quickly. Since the jewelry is fairly light in weight you will want to ship carefully, and the cost of shipping shouldn't cost too much. Make sure that you package your jewelry well and in a way that makes it look special when your customers receive it.

Keep a list of all your buyers, so that you can offer updates on sales and clearance items. This will especially be helpful if you have your own Web Store. Contact your customers regularly with updates and offers of new items you are carrying in your store.

You should be able to charge from $10 to $30 for your pieces of jewelry, depending on what kind you are selling. The better the quality of your jewelry items, the more you will be able to charge for them.

Game Ideas For Handicapped Children Or Adults

People unintentionally don't usually know how to interact with another person who has a handicap of some type. I think our tendency is to just try to do everything for them when in fact they just want to be treated more like they were normal.

A person that is paralyzed is not necessarily mentally impaired. Watching TV or a Movie is about all most people think about doing with a handicapped person.

To make both parties visits more pleasant then try playing some games. Depending on the person's handicap you will have to pick a game that will work for them.

If you haven't visited a nursing home or school for special children then consider adopting one of these facilities and giving them some games that can be played by those living there. It would be a nice thing to do for Christmas. These people need some entertainment and something to stimulate their mind, not just clothes and personal items.

Word games are good for some people depending on their handicap. I have a friend that is confined to a wheel chair and has some limitation to the use of his hands but mentally he is very normal and sharp. He loves to play word games with his friends. One that he really likes is Bananagrams because the tiles are something he can handle and you don't have to use a pen and pencil to keep score.

A couple of other popular games are the Scrabble Crossword Game and Yahtzee. If the person has a computer then there are a lot of games that can be purchased for the PC. If you are buying for a nursing home then computers are not usually available for game playing.

Here are some games that can be played that don't take any funds to buy.

Sounds That Break the Silence: Have all players sit quietly and listen for a few minutes (set based on their age) and have them write down all the sounds that they hear. The one with the most valid sounds wins.

Alphabet and Nature: Learning about nature is fun for most everyone. Pick a category like dogs and cats and then try to name a breed for each letter of the alphabet.

A Bean GameGive each player two paper plates with a number of dried beans on one of the plates. The goal is to use something like chop sticks to pick up each bean and move it to the other plate.

The free games are ones that are good to play with the children that you actually know and interact with in their game playing.

If you are planning on giving games to a school, nursing home or church program then you will probably want to select one of the games that you would need to purchase.

The idea though is to give the handicapped something to do other than watch TV.

How To Clean Your Roof - The Right Way

Stained by algae or not, roofs are cleaned using any of three common methods, each of which has its own set of pros and cons. These methods are, pressure washing, and the application of solutions containing either, chlorine bleach or sodium hydroxide. When performed correctly and only once, these techniques clean roofs effectively without significant adverse effects. The problem is, they usually have to be repeated every six to 18 months to maintain cleanliness.

Chlorine Solution Washes: Chlorine bleach solution application requires a lot less rinsing than the two other methods, thereby allowing a cleaning procedure of shorter duration. One good consequence of a quicker process is less wear and tear for the roof. However, chlorine can be toxic to some people and plants, so care should be exercised to protect employees or residents, as well as the property itself, from spray runoffs. Asphalt shingle roofs are particularly well adapted to this type of cleaning.

Sodium Hydroxide-Based Cleaning: This type of roof cleaning method can be very effective at degreasing roofs. However, this cleaning method takes a much longer time than chlorine bleach washing because the sodium hydroxide needs to be thoroughly rinsed. As a consequence, a roof becomes more at risk for being damaged. A force of 100 psi is enough to wash away the cleaning solution on asphalt shingle roofs, but the force is enough to cause some asphalt granules to get washed away during the rinsing process. Advertisements claim that sodium hydroxide is safe to use, but it can actually be toxic. Thus, make sure that the solution does not run off or come into contact with people, plants and anything in the surrounding area during the application and rinsing process. In addition, sodium hydroxide is corrosive so any residues left can damage the roof, particularly those that are made of asphalt shingles.

Pressure Washing: If you have a concrete, barrel tile or metal roof, you can clean it by power washing. Power washing does not involve the use of chemicals, which makes power washing an environment-friendly method of roof cleaning. However, power washing is rather time consuming and can put more strain on the roof. If you have coated roof tiles, the thin layer of coloring can be easily washed away by power washing. If you have a concrete roof, power washing will bring out the concrete's natural gray color, and this could mean that you will have to paint or stain the roof afterwards.

5 Tile Floor Tips For Your Basement

Refinishing or refurbishing your basement is a big job that can be costly and challenging. But gaining the added living space is often valuable enough to warrant the effort. One of the most important parts of redoing your basement is the floor. Whether you are working with a concrete or wooden floor, you may want to consider another type of flooring that will prove more durable and easy to clean. When you are giving thought to which choice will work best for your home, consider the following information with respect to a file floor for your basement.

1. A tile floor is relatively inexpensive compared to other types of flooring. Depending on the grade and style you buy, you might be able to get the peel-and-stick brand that you can lay down yourself instead of hiring it done. This will suit not only your wallet but your schedule, since it can be done in stages, as you have the time, and perhaps with the help of a friend or family member. Of course, you can get the more costly styles, and pay more, for a richer or more polished look, depending on your plans for the basement's use.

2. Tile is replaceable, so if one or more pieces should get stained, chipped, or torn, you can take them up and lay down new ones at your convenience. Instead of waiting for a service call from someone who only works weekends for double-time pay, you can do it yourself in time for the next party or family get-together.

3. Tile flooring is easy to clean. You don't have to worry as much about spilled beverages, pet accidents, or muddy shoes tracking through. Just fill a bucket with hot water and mild detergent, or whatever the tile manufacturer's directions suggest, and mop up dirt, dust, and debris in a few minutes' time.

4. Tile is easily changed. If you get tired of the design and want to change it, or decide to put down carpet when you get an unexpected monetary windfall, you can make the switch fairly quickly and easily. Some people decide to lay carpet on top of the tile, which makes it easier than taking up the old and putting down the new floor covering.

5. Tile patterns are versatile. You can choose a basic monotone color to blend in with neutral surroundings. Or buy a contemporary design to turn your basement into a family recreation room. A more sedate, intricate pattern provides a nice floor covering for a room that will become your den or a spare bedroom. Throw down a few accent rugs (the non-skid variety) and enjoy the brand new look.

Floor tile can take a pretty rough beating from shoe scuffs, equipment scrapes, and running back and forth, if you have kids. With many attractive patterns to choose from, you can dress up your basement in whatever décor you like, and then let the games begin!

Comparing Abstract Strategy Board Games

Abstract strategy games are different types of board games which many of the world's favorite games classify as. They are games that are considered to have "perfect information," which means that everything that the other player does is instantly known. This allows for no misunderstandings due to a lack of communication and assures that every action will have a reaction. No parts of these games are left up to chance, meaning that no part of the game will rely on the effect of rolling dice or flipping a coin. Every action that is done is chosen by the player according to the circumstances and the player is in charge of every single action that takes place.

The games usually have either two players or two teams and are considered to be a head to head challenge. Checkers, Chess, Go, and Mancala are all considered to be great examples of abstract strategy games.

Some of the best abstract strategy games work as a series of puzzles that one player poses to the other. In a game that doesn't have random elements or hidden information, all there is to play off of is the direct opposition that one player presents to another. For this reason, some abstract strategy games are considered superior to others for the simple fact that they present more opportunity for opposition than others.

Tic-Tac-Toe could technically be considered as an abstract strategy game, but it's value is placed rather low for it does not present much difficulty during game play. Others, such as Chess, are considered to be some of the highest quality abstract strategy games available. Chess, with a clearly defined set of rules, a number of pieces to manipulate, and a rather large playing space, allows for nearly endless possibilities when playing a match against another player.

Othello, also called Reversi by some, is a game that brings two forces, black and white, into a battle of wits and strategy to find a victor. Played on an 8 by 8 grid, players either play as the black or the white tiles and try to change the face of their opponent's tiles by strategic placement. The game starts with two tiles of each color being placed in the 4 central squares, each token being directly diagonal to the match.

The first player to move will then take a token of their own color and place it on the board next to a token of the opposite color, trapping the opponent's colored token between two pieces of the first player's color. When a colored game piece becomes trapped between two opposite colors, that player gets to flip the trapped piece and change it into their own color. By doing this, they start to claim game tokens for themselves. When the second player gets a chance to play, they place one of their own tokens onto the board, trapping one or more tokens of their opponent and therefore changing those colors to their own.

Game play continues in this fashion, changing as many of the opponent's colors as possible, until no possible moves are left on the board. When this happens, the game is over and the tokens on the board are counted. The player with more colored tokens on the board is declared as the winner of the match. It is another prime example of an abstract strategy game. Nothing happens that isn't immediately know and everything can be reacted to with ease.

Mah Jong Through the Years - From the Past to Today

Mah Jong is divided into two different history timelines, before 1920 and after 1920. There is recorded history of the game being played before 1920's but the rules from ancient civilization were not entirely translated correctly into different languages after 1920's.

Prior to 1920 Reports of the source of Mah Jong vary. Some stories suggest the Chinese played this game around 1120 AD. Other stories suggest it originated around 500BC during the time of Confucius. A beautiful maiden was living in the King's court and she invented the game during her seclusion from others.
Not everyone was allowed to participate in playing the game. It was a game of royalty. A common person was decapitated if caught playing this game.

Around 1920 when this ban was lifted, Joseph P. Babcock introduced the game to America. He coined the name Mah-Jongg and created wrote the rules we play by today.

After the 1920's The game has become the craze of the West. Many of the earliest games reflect card games we play today. Taking after the card game solitaire, It is played very much the same. In fact, the game is also known as Mah Jong Solitaire. The Chinese word Mah Jong translates into "clattering sparrow". This explains the pictures on the tiles that make up the unique playing of the game.

Britian and Japan have included Mah Jong Games in their board game entertainment. Their rules deviate some what from America's but the outcome is the same. Skill and technique will help in winning at this exciting game.
It is amazing to know the games we have been playing were actually in existence many, many years ago. Ancient civilized people entertained themselves the same way.

The Five Most Addicting Games of All Time

Every person who loves games has their favorites. But not all games are addicting games - even those considered classics, like Monopoly. I'm a die-hard fan of addicting games - those that you'll stay up playing until the wee hours of the morning, or those that get worn out from so much use. My choices for the five most addicting games of all time might not be yours, but if you haven't played them in awhile, give them a try - you may be pleasantly surprised!

Board Games

Of the classics, Scrabble will always be in my top ten. I love words, and although I'd never make it to the Scrabble championships, I get enormous satisfaction out of coming up with clever words. Sometimes the tiles just won't cooperate, but I've been known to sacrifice points for the sheer pleasure of placing a clever word on the board.

Again, because I'm such a fan of words, I love the game Taboo. It's a totally addicting game for four players where you have to get your partner to say a certain word without uttering that word - or any form of it - yourself. It's an enormous challenge, but one that's an absolute hoot!

Another truly addicting game is called Therapy. It's one of those unique board games you need to play with people you know - or people you'd like to get to know a lot better! Each player has his or her own couch, and each player has to answer trivia questions about different life stages that are based on psychological research. When you land in a "therapy" space, you're "in therapy" with the player who owns the space. He or she has to predict how you'd answer a personality question. If your answers match, you're out of therapy; if they don't, you have to stay for another session. It's both hilarious and insightful!

Card Games

I find many types of card games addictive - from hearts to rummy to pinochle - but as far as specialty card games go, I'll choose Uno every time. My family actually has a much-anticipated Uno tournament every Fourth of July. I love the way alliances quickly change, depending upon who is on the verge of going out, and the utter desperation you feel when you have a fistful of cards.

My second choice of specialty card game would be Uno's cousin, Skip-Bo. It's a great kid's game for the whole family, since anyone who can count up to 12 can play it. It's been great watching it dawn on my son that there's a strategy to the game, and seeing him hold back cards so that he could play a greater number of cards in his next turn. When we go to my sister's house to visit, we all play for hours at a time.

Other Games and Puzzles

I haven't included any video games or jigsaw puzzles in my personal list of the most addicting games of all time, but they very well may be included in your list. Whatever your personal favorites, but all means, play often and play well!

American Mahjong

American Mahjong is a game, the 30s and was born in 1920, shortly after the Chinese version of the front was introduced to U.S. From that point, the American players Mahjong fascinated thousands of people. People of all ethnic groups play Mahjong house, mahjong parlors, and even during the championships. But as American Mahjong popularity began to grow, the Chinese version has begun to ask players if the game truly deserves the title "Mahjong."

Well, theoverall gameplay is more or less the same as traditional Mahjong. In essence, through luck and skill to compete against four players for the most points by the Gaming Board Mahjong dominant. To this end, they build sets, discarding and selecting new cards.

American Mahjong is distinguished by the addition of a new technique known "Charleston" than that. The Charleston is started, even before the game, too. Basically, it allows players to exchange unwanted tiles. So ifCharleston is used properly it could advantageously players with a choice, if they know what they have to get rid of tiles, or if they know how to work with the magic side.
The tiles are also different with American Mahjong. Why? Well, the layout is slightly changed a bit 'as American Mahjong tile adds the Joker. This allows you to play in replacement of another stone.

In relation to the project itself, ironically, theAmerican version uses the same graphics of oriental inspiration for the Chinese version. This does not mean that it is mahjong games, turn away from these observations, even if this traffic is largely different. Consider the computer game "Mahjong Master: Egyptian Edition." It uses Egyptian symbols for the Mahjong tiles, although it is not intended to replace Mahjong "official" Chinese American or graphics on Mahjong.

So in the end, when you comparethe different games, the differences are important enough to consider American Mahjong a separate game. So, why is there still a controversy? Well, it's all a matter of personal opinion. Some people believe that if you want to play a game, must be complete as the original. Then there are others who by their own similar spin. Sometimes these "revolutions" stay to play their style, unique and personal, while at other times is so popular that begins withall others. This is what happened, American Mahjong.

Finally, no matter what version you play, you enjoy a great game that will broaden your joke, but it calms the mind.
